Course Learning Objectives

In this course, participants will create a strategic plan for their nonprofit. Strategic plans are used to help organizations focus their resources, establish priorities, create action plans, and respond to change. This course provides Nonprofit Executives, board members, and Development Directors with instruction on skills and conceptual information. It provides them with opportunities to apply those abilities to practice through hypothetical and actual cases.

In this course, participants will:

• Create a basis for a 3-year strategic plan for their agency
  • Who should be involved and how to obtain input
• Learn how to maintain a strategic plan throughout the year effectively
• Conduct yearly evaluations on their strategic plan
• Create an annual operating plan to work in partnership with the strategic plan
• Demonstrate sufficient mastery of course material

This course will ask participants to sign on for 1.5 hours each week and meet as a group. In addition, each participant will spend 9-10 hours of weekly work for the session. Each participant is asked to work on an end-of-course project related to their nonprofit. Examples include:

• A three-year strategic plan
• An outline for their strategic plan
• A yearly operating plan
